Fortum Showroom, Loviisa

Together with Fortum experts, LIWLIG team created, designed, and implemented a showroom in Loviisa to share knowledge and raise awareness about nuclear power.

The team dove deep into the content, and got to use its diverse expertise in content and space design, technical knowledge, and production.

The neutron live on

The showroom was open to the public during the summer of 2023, from July 7 to August 6, and starting from August 7, 2023, the space is open by appointment for various groups, such as student groups.

From plan to action

Nuclear power is a part of our daily lives, familiar to some and, at times, a topic of intense discussion. Fortum has a nuclear power plant in Loviisa, and despite the inability to visit the plant, the company wanted to share information with consumers. This led to the idea of Fortum’s Loviisa showroom, serving as an exhibition space for nuclear power for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

Turning plans into tangible stories

Once the corner stones of the user experience were set in place intensive content work began. Fortum experts provided the LIWLIG team with six essential topic areas, and final stories were selected and scripted into narratives that dominate the exhibition space. Different areas of the space represent different topics and react to the neutron, generating stories that the visitor can steer. Among other things, a visitor can explore the history of nuclear power and Loviisa Power Plant by moving the neutron on a timeline, learn about the journey of nuclear fuel all the way to its final disposal through an interactive, moving display, and get a sense of which components Finland’s electricity production is made up of by making selections.

“In this project, collaboration was hugely important. Together with Fortum, we managed to distill the key topics, narrate them into down-to-earth and understandable stories, and harness technology to support learning and experiencing something new. The showroom is a place worth experiencing – not only because of the story it tells but also for the experience it delivers.”
